Bill Trewhella was born on September 9, 1933 in Butte, Montana to Marguerite Virginia (Taylor) and William John Trewhella. His mother died ten days after his birth due to complications from the delivery. He was taken in by his father's sister, Ethel (Ma) Paull and her husband Harry Paull. He grew up alongside their son, also named Bill. The family raised "Little Bill" in Butte, and he attended schools in Butte, eventually graduating from Butte High School in 1951. From there, Bill went on to attend the School of Mines in Butte for two years. Bill then entered the Army and served during the Korean War for two years. After his military service, Bill moved to Oakland, California with his cousin "Big Bill", and began work for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Goodman. They were married in 1958. Bill and Barbara returned to Montana after their marriage and Bill attended Montana State University, where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He then began work for Mountain Bell in Helena, Montana. Bill and Barb remained in Helena for about 20 years, and were blessed with the addition of a daughter Sherrie, and son Kerry to their family. During the breakup of the Bell Telephone System, Bill and Barb relocated to Kaysville, Utah, where both continued to work for US West in Salt Lake City. In 1990, Bill retired with 35 years of service with the Bell Telephone Company. Two years later, Barbara also retired. In 1993, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to be near their daughter Sherrie, son-in-law Arlen Roesner, grandson Travis, and granddaugther Monica. Their son, Kerry, then relocated to the same Fort Collins area in 1998. While in Fort Collins, Bill and Barb were active in the Parkinson's Support Group of Larimer County, where Bill served as secretary. Bill was an avid woodworker and metalworker during his retired years and enjoyed keeping his hands busy on the various projects he completed. Methodical and detailed, everything he did carried with it his own special mark of love and craftsmanship. Bill and Barb continued to cultivate the many friendships that they had developed during their years in Montana and Utah. In June of 2009, Bill and Barb celebrated 51 years of marriage. Two months previous to this - in April of 2009, Bill was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He fought a short but courageous battle, and died at home in the care of his family and friends. During his illness, Bill committed his life to Jesus Christ and received Him as his Lord and Savior. The character and quality of life that Bill lived is a testament of the working power of God throughout his years. Bill will be sorely missed and remembered frequently. His memories are attached to many places, events, and things around us. Bill, you will never be forgotten, and we look forward to seeing you again on the other side.
